A Short Evening of Short Films
12/4/2024
Rowan College of South Jersey’s Media Productions Club is hosting its first-ever “A Short Evening of Short Films” movie screening on the Cumberland campus.

The Rowan College of South Jersey–Cumberland (RCSJ) Media Productions Club is hosting a special movie screening titled “A Short Evening of Short Films,” on Wednesday, Dec. 11. This free cinematic event is open to the public and will take place at the Arpino Education and Humanities Center in Room 258 at 6 p.m.

“We have a very eclectic program of films that really represent the eclectic nature of the students,” said Nathaniel Clark, Radio, Television, and Film professor and coordinator, RCSJ. “We’ll have an experimental film, a stop-motion film, two features ‘The Signal’ and ‘The Last Rites of Nate McCree,’ a music video just for fun, and a few surprises.”

“We’ll start with a little reception in the studio to mingle [and] have some complimentary popcorn,” he added. “Then we’ll head across the hall to our screening room. There will be opportunities for Q&A with the filmmakers, and again, a few surprises.”

“The Signal,” directed by Raven Figueroa-Montero, who graduated from RCSJ this spring, was recently screened at the prestigious CUT International Short Film Festival, held at the Levoy Theatre in Millville, in September.

“A Short Evening of Short Films” is the club’s first-ever movie screening at the College.

“We felt like this would be an opportunity to showcase the students’ films, connect with the greater community, and to invite folks to come see what we’ve been working on,” Clark said.

The Media Productions Club began as the Summer Media Program created for students to work together on making films and media projects during the summer break. Clark noted the students had such a great experience they asked if they could continue making films and media throughout the year. “Thus,” the professor said, “was born the Media Productions Club.”

The club’s members are excited to put their work on display for the public and hope to make this an annual event. Clark said audience members will enjoy themselves.

“Guaranteed or your money back,” the professor joked. “Actually, it’s a free event but I think it’ll be a good time for all.”
